  33. The Progressive 040 brings the high-speed processing power of the
  34. leading-edge Motorola 68040 25MHz CPU to your Amigatm 3000 series computer.
  35. A 16MHz A3000 equipped with the Progressive 040 will operate at 6 or more
  36. times its normal speed (4 or more times faster than a 25MHz Amiga 3000). 
  37. The Progressive 040 transforms an Amigatm 3000 into a powerful workstation,
  38. with performance and capabilities previously found only in high-end
  39. workstations costing thousands of dollars more.  For 3-D modeling,
  40. ray-tracing, multimedia applications, intensive multi-tasking, and any
  41. other processor-intensive work, the Progressive 040 produces results
  42. several times faster than previously possible.

  44. Motorola rates the 68040's performance at about 19.2 MIPS (Million
  45. Instructions Per Second) - faster than a SPARC 25MHz processor (19 MIPS),
  46. the R3000 RISC 20MHz processor (17 MIPS), a 68030 50MHz processor (12
  47. MIPS), and the Intel '486 processor.  Raw floating point and integer
  48. operations are nearly twice as fast as a 50MHz 68030.  You won't need to
  49. buy a separate math coprocessor - it's built right in to the 68040 CPU! 
  50. Performance analysis software, included on the disk, rates the Progressive
  51. 68040/3000 at up to 35 times the speed of a standard Amigatm 500!

  53. Compatibility with AmigaDOStm release 2.0, and 2.0-compatible third party
  54. application software has been extensively tested for reliability and
  55. performance.  A software "switch", included on the supplied disk, toggles
  56. between the 68030 processor and 68040 processor by simply clicking on its
  57. icon and rebooting (25MHz A3000 only).  Additional software utilities
  58. enable and disable specific processor functions, such as instruction and
  59. data caching, copyback mode, and write-through mode.  The utility disk also
  60. includes high performance floating-point software.

  62. The Progressive 68040/3000 makes use of the 32-bit wide memory provided on
  63. the A3000tm motherboard.  The accelerator installs in the A3000tm's
  64. processor slot, beneath the floppy drive bay.  The installation procedure
  65. is simple, requiring little time or technical skill.  A low-profile
  66. "whisper-fan" is mounted on the card to ensure reliable operation in even
  67. the most hostile climates.
